The big, lively, all-in budget resort for students and groups. Open since 1991 and one of the larger budget names on Long Beach (Pasir Panjang), Redang Bay runs around 70 units — family rooms, standard quads and twin chalets — plus shared dormitories sleeping six to eight, which is what makes it a perennial pick for student trips and big groups chasing the lowest per-person rate. Unusually for the budget end, it also has a swimming pool and a dive centre, along with karaoke, indoor games and beach sports, so there is plenty laid on. Reviewers note clean rooms and decent package food. The honest flip side is that this is a busy, social, no-frills place — basic rooms and a lively crowd — so you come for the price, the facilities and the atmosphere, not for quiet or polish.

Our independent tip

Redang Bay's edge at the budget end is the facilities: a pool, a dive centre and dorm beds that most cheap chalets simply do not have, which is exactly why student groups book it out. In return, expect basic rooms and a busy, social atmosphere — this is the lively end of the island, not the quiet one. If you are a group and do not mind sharing, the dormitory beds are about the cheapest way onto Redang; if you want calm, the south end of Long Beach (Redang Reef) is quieter.

Indicative rate

Among the cheaper packages on the island — a 3D2N snorkeling package starts from around RM 450 per adult on twin-share, and shared dormitory beds bring the per-person price down further for groups. Includes the return boat transfer from Merang, full-board meals and the snorkeling trips. Indicative — check the current package rate.

Frequently asked questions

Does Redang Bay Resort have dormitory rooms?

Yes — alongside its family rooms, standard quads and twin chalets it offers shared dormitories sleeping six to eight, which is what makes it so popular with student trips and big groups looking for the lowest per-person package rate on the island.

Does Redang Bay Resort have a swimming pool?

Yes — which is unusual at the budget end, where most resorts have no pool. It also has a dive centre, karaoke and games, so there is more laid on than the price suggests; the trade-off is basic rooms and a busy, sociable atmosphere.

Is Redang Bay Resort good for families or groups?

Both — it has long billed itself as family-friendly and has family rooms and a pool, but its dorms, low rates and lively scene make it a particular favourite with students and big groups. Families wanting somewhere quieter and more polished may prefer Coral Redang or Laguna.
