The quiet, budget end of Long Beach. Redang Reef Resort sits right at the far southern tip of Pasir Panjang — reached by a short walkway across the rocks — which buys it two things the busier middle of the beach lacks: it is the cheapest resort on the island, and it has a sheltered, rock-fringed swimming area that is calm and shallow enough for young children. Accommodation is simple chalets in greenery a stone's throw from the sea; this is a no-frills, full-board package stay, not a polished resort. Reviewers like the snorkeling straight off the reef and the low price; the flip side is basic rooms and fewer facilities than the bigger Long Beach names.

Our independent tip

Choose Redang Reef for two reasons specifically: the lowest price on the island, and the sheltered, shallow rock pools at the south end that are unusually safe for small children to paddle in. Go in knowing it is basic — simple chalets and fewer facilities than Laguna or Redang Beach — and that its far-end position means a walk along the beach (and across the rocks at the very end) to reach the busier middle. For snorkellers on a budget who just want the reef and a bed, it is hard to beat on cost.

Indicative rate

The cheapest packages on the island — a 3D2N snorkeling package is typically around RM 450-750 per adult on twin-share, including the return boat transfer, full-board meals and snorkeling trips. Indicative — check the current package; the budget price comes with basic rooms.

Frequently asked questions

Is Redang Reef Resort really the cheapest on the island?

It is consistently positioned as the most budget-friendly resort on Redang, which is its main appeal. You trade facilities and polish for the price: expect simple chalets, a no-frills full-board package, and fewer extras than the larger Long Beach resorts.

Is Redang Reef Resort good for families with young kids?

It can be — its spot at the far end of Long Beach has a sheltered, rock-fringed shallow area calmer than the open beach, which parents of small children appreciate. Just set expectations on the basic rooms and the walk to the busier middle of the beach.

Where exactly is Redang Reef Resort?

Right at the southern tip of Long Beach (Pasir Panjang), reached by a short walkway over the rocks at the end of the beach. That makes it the quietest spot on an otherwise lively beach, with the house reef immediately offshore.
