Where to stay
Where to stay on Pulau Redang
On an island you choose a beach before you choose a resort — and on Redang you book a package, not a room. Here is how the main resorts actually differ, and which beach, budget and all-inclusive package fits your trip.
Where you stay on Redang comes down to two questions: which beach, and what kind of package. Nearly everything is on Long Beach (Pasir Panjang) — the lively main strip where the easiest house reefs, the most facilities and the evening scene are, shared with day-trippers. The one real alternative is the secluded northern bay of Teluk Dalam, where the 5-star Taaras sits alone. Then it is a question of budget and style, because every resort sells the same thing — a per-person all-inclusive package that bundles the boat, meals and snorkelling. Here are the ones worth knowing, and who each suits.

The main resorts
The seven most people weigh up — from the 5-star anchor and the family default to the cheapest chalets.
Laguna Redang Island Resort
PremiumLong Beach · Resort· family-friendly
The big, polished, family-default resort on Long Beach (Pasir Panjang) — and on Redang, where almost everything is sold as an all-inclusive package, that default is usually the safe first-trip choice. Laguna is the island's largest mainstream resort: 222 rooms and suites in traditional Malay-style longhouses set back from a long white-sand beach, with the most complete setup on the island — a big outdoor pool, a separate kids' pool and a jacuzzi, landscaped gardens, several restaurants and bars, and a PADI dive centre. Its house reef is a short swim or boat-hop away and the package snorkeling trips run from its own jetty. The trade-off is the flip side of its size: Long Beach is the liveliest, most built-up stretch on Redang, shared with day-trippers and a row of other resorts — so book Laguna for the reliable, kid-friendly, everything-in-one-place setup and the easy reef out front, not for a secluded castaway beach.
- · Redang's largest mainstream resort — 222 rooms & suites in traditional Malay longhouses
- · On Long Beach (Pasir Panjang), the island main white-sand beach
- · A big outdoor pool plus a separate kids pool and jacuzzi — uncommon on package-resort Redang
Sold as per-person packages, not nightly rooms — a 3D2N snorkeling package is typically around RM 600-1,200 per adult on twin-share, including the return boat transfer from Merang, full-board meals and the snorkeling trips. Sea-view rooms, suites, weekends and the Jun-Aug peak cost more; children are charged less. Indicative bands from the resort and booking sites — always check the current package rate.
The Taaras Beach & Spa Resort
LuxuryTeluk Dalam · Resort
Redang's one true luxury address, and the only resort with a beach to itself. The Taaras (a 5-star Berjaya property, formerly the Berjaya Redang Resort) sits on Teluk Dalam, a secluded northern bay widely rated the most beautiful on the island — lush jungle behind, calm turquoise water in front, and no day-tripper crowds because there is no other resort on the bay. It runs to 184 rooms, suites and a villa, a full spa (the Taaras Spa, with thalassotherapy and beachside treatments), a dive centre, and the polish you would expect at the top of the island's price range. The honest counterpoint from guests is the price, and that the food and some service can feel merely average for a 5-star rate. Book it for the private beach, the spa and the seclusion Long Beach cannot offer — not for value.
- · The only resort on Teluk Dalam — a secluded bay with the beach to itself
- · Redang's one genuine 5-star: 184 rooms, suites and a villa (Berjaya Group)
- · The Taaras Spa — thalassotherapy and beachside treatments
The most expensive stay on Redang — sold as room rates and packages, and typically running well above the Long Beach resorts (often roughly two to three times a mainstream Long Beach package). Suites and the villa cost considerably more. Indicative — check the current rate, and weigh the seclusion and spa against the premium.
Coral Redang Island Resort
Mid-RangeLong Beach · Resort· family-friendly
The value pick with a pool, at the quieter end of Long Beach. Coral Redang sits at the north corner of Pasir Panjang — far enough from the busiest middle to feel calm, close enough to walk to the bars and restaurants — and does something most Long Beach package resorts do not: it has its own swimming pools, an adult one and a children's one, alongside a well-regarded dive centre. It runs to 61 rooms (standard, superior and family rooms for up to five) in a mix of traditional and modern style, and reviewers consistently call it excellent value for the money. The honest trade-offs are that the rooms have no in-room TV or Wi-Fi (there is Wi-Fi in the common area), they are on the smaller side, and beach loungers can run short at peak — this is comfortable mid-range, not luxury. For a family or a diver who wants a pool to fall back on without paying the Laguna premium, it is one of the smartest picks on the island.
- · One of the few Long Beach resorts with its own pools — an adult pool and a separate kids pool
- · At the quieter north end of Pasir Panjang, but walkable to the bars and restaurants
- · 61 rooms — standard, superior and family rooms for up to five
Sold as per-person packages, not nightly rooms — a 3D2N snorkeling package is typically around RM 600-1,000 per adult on twin-share (snorkeling from about RM 590, the dive package from around RM 805), including the return boat transfer from Merang, full-board meals and the snorkeling trips. Sea-view rooms, weekends and the Jun-Aug peak cost more; children are charged less. Indicative — check the current package rate.
Redang Beach Resort
Mid-RangeLong Beach · Resort· family-friendly
The sociable, good-value middle of Long Beach. Redang Beach Resort is one of the larger, longer-running resorts on Pasir Panjang — 154 rooms and chalets, from simple standards to sea-view suites — and it leans into a livelier, younger vibe than the family-first Laguna, with a beach bar and a sociable evening scene that suits groups and twenty-somethings. It sits centrally on Long Beach, so the house reef and the snorkeling trips are easy, and its package rates are among the better value on the island. What you trade for the price and the buzz is polish and quiet: rooms are functional rather than smart, and Long Beach here is busy and social, not secluded.
- · Central on Long Beach (Pasir Panjang) — easy access to the house reef
- · 154 rooms and chalets, from simple standards to sea-view suites
- · A livelier, sociable scene — a beach bar and an evening crowd
Sold as per-person packages — a 3D2N snorkeling package commonly lands around RM 550-900 per adult on twin-share (one published weekday 3N4D rate was about RM 690), including the return boat transfer, full-board meals and snorkeling trips. Sea-view rooms, weekends and the Jun-Aug peak cost more. Indicative — check the current package.
Redang Pelangi Resort
Mid-RangeLong Beach · Resort· family-friendly
The diver's value pick on Long Beach. Redang Pelangi has grown from a handful of chalets into a 46-room resort on the north side of Pasir Panjang, a short walk from one of the prettiest stretches of sand on the beach — and its calling card is the dive centre, which experienced divers regularly rate as one of the best on the island. Rooms (standards sleeping two to four, deluxe up to three) are clean, modern and simply furnished, with air-conditioning, hot showers and a small safe; the beachfront has hammocks, a volleyball court, a pool table and board games for the downtime. What it does not have is a swimming pool — the sea is the pool here — and the rooms are functional rather than smart. For a certified diver, someone who wants to learn, or a mid-budget snorkeller who values a great dive operation over polish, it is hard to beat.
- · A dive centre experienced divers rate among the best on Redang
- · On the north side of Long Beach (Pasir Panjang), by one of its prettiest stretches of sand
- · 46 clean, modern rooms — standards for two to four, deluxe for up to three
Sold as per-person packages, not nightly rooms — a 3D2N snorkeling package starts from around RM 450 per adult on twin-share (the standard-room rate; a dive package adds roughly RM 300 more), including the return boat transfer from Merang, full-board meals and the snorkeling trips. Sea-view rooms, weekends and the Jun-Aug peak cost more. Indicative — check the current package rate.
Redang Bay Resort
BudgetLong Beach · Resort· family-friendly
The big, lively, all-in budget resort for students and groups. Open since 1991 and one of the larger budget names on Long Beach (Pasir Panjang), Redang Bay runs around 70 units — family rooms, standard quads and twin chalets — plus shared dormitories sleeping six to eight, which is what makes it a perennial pick for student trips and big groups chasing the lowest per-person rate. Unusually for the budget end, it also has a swimming pool and a dive centre, along with karaoke, indoor games and beach sports, so there is plenty laid on. Reviewers note clean rooms and decent package food. The honest flip side is that this is a busy, social, no-frills place — basic rooms and a lively crowd — so you come for the price, the facilities and the atmosphere, not for quiet or polish.
- · Open since 1991 — one of the larger budget resorts on Long Beach
- · Around 70 units plus shared dormitories for groups on the tightest budgets
- · Has a swimming pool and a dive centre — uncommon at this price point
Among the cheaper packages on the island — a 3D2N snorkeling package starts from around RM 450 per adult on twin-share, and shared dormitory beds bring the per-person price down further for groups. Includes the return boat transfer from Merang, full-board meals and the snorkeling trips. Indicative — check the current package rate.
Redang Reef Resort
BudgetLong Beach · Resort· family-friendly
The quiet, budget end of Long Beach. Redang Reef Resort sits right at the far southern tip of Pasir Panjang — reached by a short walkway across the rocks — which buys it two things the busier middle of the beach lacks: it is the cheapest resort on the island, and it has a sheltered, rock-fringed swimming area that is calm and shallow enough for young children. Accommodation is simple chalets in greenery a stone's throw from the sea; this is a no-frills, full-board package stay, not a polished resort. Reviewers like the snorkeling straight off the reef and the low price; the flip side is basic rooms and fewer facilities than the bigger Long Beach names.
- · The most budget-friendly resort on Redang
- · At the quiet far-south end of Long Beach, across a short rock walkway
- · A sheltered, rock-fringed shallow area — calm for young children
The cheapest packages on the island — a 3D2N snorkeling package is typically around RM 450-750 per adult on twin-share, including the return boat transfer, full-board meals and snorkeling trips. Indicative — check the current package; the budget price comes with basic rooms.

Frequently asked questions
Which is the best resort on Pulau Redang?
There is no single best — it depends on your trip. For a first visit or a family, Laguna Redang is the safe default: it is the largest resort, with an outdoor pool, a separate kids pool and the most facilities (Coral Redang is the cheaper mid-range alternative that also has a pool). For a quiet, romantic, special-occasion trip, The Taaras is the one true 5-star on the island, on a private bay. Groups after a social, good-value base pick Redang Beach Resort, and the tightest budgets head for Redang Reef. Match the resort to the trip rather than chasing a "best".
Should I stay on Long Beach or a quieter bay?
Long Beach (Pasir Panjang) is where almost every resort, the easiest house reefs and the evening scene are — sociable and convenient, but busy with day-trippers and not secluded. The one alternative is The Taaras on Teluk Dalam, a private northern bay with the beach to itself, at a much higher price. So it is a straight trade: Long Beach for value, facilities and easy snorkelling; Teluk Dalam for seclusion if you will pay for it.
Do all Redang resorts have a swimming pool?
No — and this surprises people. Most Long Beach package resorts have no pool at all; the sea is the pool. The exceptions are worth knowing: Laguna Redang has an outdoor pool plus a separate kids pool, Coral Redang has an adult and a children pool, and the budget Redang Bay has one too; off Long Beach, The Taaras has a pool on its private bay. If a pool to fall back on between snorkelling trips matters to you, that narrows the choice considerably.
How do you book a Redang resort — is it room-only?
Almost never room-only. Redang resorts sell per-person all-inclusive packages (2D1N, 3D2N or 4D3N) that bundle the return boat from Merang jetty, full-board meals and the snorkelling or diving trips. You book the package, not a nightly room, and you compare resorts on what the package includes and the per-person rate. Our /packages page breaks down how to read and compare them.
